The Waukegan Arts Council invites you to join us for the Lake County Dance Showcase on Tuesday, June 9, 7 p.m. at Gorton Theatre, 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest, IL.
We are proudly presenting a showcase for dance featuring dedicated and talented dance students from across Lake County, including Alats Dance, Ballet Folklorico Erandi, Buffalo Grove Studio of Dance, Dance Academy of Libertyville, Dancenter North, Lake Forest Dance Academy, Lincolnshire Academy of Dance, Rhythm Academy of Dance, as well as a special solo performance by the acclaimed tap dancer Rich Ashworth.
Since dance is an art form in which human movement becomes the medium for sensing, understanding, and communicating ideas, feelings and experiences, we will feature many different genres, such as ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop/street, folk, and more. Performers will celebrate the refined form of Classical Ballet with solo variations from historically famous ballets. There will also be solo and group original performances in the ever changing contemporary style which is a mixture of ballet and modern. Lyrical dancing is where a story is danced through the lyrics. Traditional jazz dancing is styled in form from the late and great Bob Fosse with a smooth and cool type of vibe. The very current and upbeat style of hip-hop will be featured, as well.
“As part of our mission, the Waukegan Arts Council provides programs to enhance the community’s awareness of and appreciation for the arts. Every quarter we host an event to highlight different aspects of arts and culture, and to provide people the opportunity to network and connect,” says Lori Nerheim, Chair of the Waukegan Arts Council. “We were thrilled to partner with Kristy White to create this event. Kristy was born and raised in Waukegan, danced professionally, and now teaches at several of the dance studios participating in the Lake County Dance Showcase,” added Nerheim.
“Being originally from Waukegan, I am aware of the city’s rich arts history,” says Kristy White. “For the Waukegan Arts Council to provide the community with opportunities to appreciate the creativity of artists, I find it to be such a wonderful service. Since dance has been a part of my life starting at age three and as an artist, this is very close to my heart. I love that the Lake County Dance Showcase gives dancers a chance to share their talents as well for an audience to be entertained. I appreciate the opportunity to be part of this special performance and hope for more in the future.”
