The Waukegan Arts Council invites you to be part of one of the most exciting and diverse arts communities along the shore of Lake Michigan. Building on its rich cultural history, Waukegan has been home to scores of writers, actors, artists and musicians who have gone on to fame and fortune, including Ray Bradbury and Jack Benny.

Come and experience a wide variety of quality literary, performing and visual arts programming among Waukegan’s many long-standing and emerging arts and cultural venues. Throughout the year, residents and visitors can enjoy performances, festivals, film screenings, concerts, art exhibitions, classes, workshops and more.

2024 Grant Applications Now Open

The Waukegan Arts Council it is sponsoring its second annual grant program to support the arts in Waukegan.  

$5000 for Public Art Grants 

The purpose of the 2024 Public Art Grant program is to promote art in Waukegan. Grants will be awarded to projects which support high quality public art experiences, encourage artistic expression, energize public participation, and promote cultural appreciation for our diverse community. 

$2500 for Micro Grants

The purpose of the 2024 Micro Grant program is to provide a subsidy to working Waukegan artists for the production of their art. Grants up to $500 will be awarded to artists who are actively engaged in their chosen medium and who demonstrate a need for funds to purchase supplies or equipment, secure a venue, attend a class or obtain necessary resources to engage in the applicant’s art form. The grant cannot be used to pay salaries or benefits.
